‘Malawi ready for industrialisation’ – The Nation Online: The projects to be financed include the international airport, a holiday resort at Cape Maclear and a logistics park in Mangochi, rehabilitation of Liwonde Dry Port and rail lines along the Nacala Corridor, construction and rehabilitation of M5 Road as well as industrial parks in Blantyre and Lilongwe.

Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development Joseph Mwanamvekha signed the MoU on behalf of� the Malawi Government while Afreximbank president Benedict Oramah signed on behalf of the bank.

As the countdown to the 2018 Malawi Investment Forum (MIF) continues, the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (Mitc) has said it expects the event to attract 800 delegates.

Mitc Public Relations Manager, Deliby Chimbalu, said, so far, 300 delegates have confirmed their participation at the MIF slated for June 11 and and 12 at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe..

Chimbalu said Mitc is working with Malawi foreign missions to woo more delegates to attend the event."

The  Ministry of Energy says four companies have so far started investing in energy sector.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry Winfred Masanjala said this when he presented the report to the Parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance recently.

The four companies have a potential to produce a combined 1,235 megawatts with much of the energy, 1,000 MW, to be produced by the Chinese Company China Gezhouba Group Company."

It was granted the North Rukuru EPL0376/2013 covering 318 square kilometer immediately south of existing ML0143/2005 and another tenement Ngana EPL0377/2013 covering 231 square kilometer south of the Tanzanian border.

28 March 2013 - Australian coal resources development company Intra Energy Corporation (IEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Malawi’s government for the construction and operation of a 120 MW coal fired power station. The company is in the pre-feasibility stage of developing a minimum 120 MW power station at Chipoka, Malawi by no later than the end of 2016. The project would include the design, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of the power plant and its ancillary infrastructure and IEC is considering potential expansion to 200 MW (net) or doubling capacity with a second plant of 120 MW."

Chinese bank to support Malawi with $2bn
