South African firm to invest USD 10 million in Malawi niobium project



The South African engineering firm Thuthuka has agreed to invest USD 10.6 million in a JV to develop the Kanyika niobium project in Malawi, owned by ASX listed Globe Metals & Mining.

The investment would fund about 85% of the estimated costs of the bankable feasibility study into the niobium project, which would start immediately. The bankable feasibility study was likely to be completed by December next year. For its USD 10.6 million investment, Thuthuka would earn a 25% interest in the project. READ MORE

Paladin makes first drawdown

 Paladin Energy Ltd ("Paladin" has just  announced the first drawdown of US$84.5M under the Kayelekera Project Financing Loan (Facility).

The Kayelekera Uranium Mine is currently in its production ramp-up phase. The first drawdown will be reimbursed to Paladin Energy Ltd for funds spent on completing the project, with the remainder of the Facility to be applied to the Project and working capital expenditure. READ MORE

Paladin falls short of production guidance


Paladin Energy Ltd. quietly provided its year-end production update on Thursday, after delays at one of its mines in Africa caused the company to fall short of its full-year production guidance by about 260,000 pounds.
The uranium miner's Kayelekera plant in Malawi, southeast Africa, was forced to shut down to implement modifications and tweaking during the commissioning phase. In the fourth quarter (Paladin's fiscal year-end is in June) Kayelekera produced only 35,000 pounds of triuranium octoxide, a common uranium compound, versus the expected 350,000 pounds. READ MORE
