Government could lose up to $112 million (K82 billion) in revenue if the country commences oil production under the current production sharing agreements (PSAs) with foreign companies, a new Oxfam report has stated.
The analysis of the fiscal terms in the oil contracts done by Oxfam, through a consortium of international economic and oil industry consultants, is based on assumptions on provisions in the contracts which allow companies to pay less taxes as the oil blocks make more profit.

Efora Energy (formerly SacOil) relinquishes oil exploration licence in Malawi
Prospecting for oil in Malawi’s northern Block 1 has not been successful. As a result, South African company Efora Energy has decided not to renew its prospecting licence.
According to JSE-listed Efora Energy, formerly trading under SacOil Holdings, the prospectivity did not meet project investment criteria. SacOil initially acquired the licence in December 2012."

A new firm, Mount Meru Millers, has invested $25 million (about K18 billion) to set up a cooking
oil factory, creating 250 jobs in Dowa District.
The plant, located at Mgubo Village near Lumbadzi Trading Centre, is the fifth factory the
company has opened in sub-Saharan Africa with others in Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia and
Uganda.

Hamra Holdings Embarks On Mapping For Oil And Gas Exploration: "The Malawi government in collaboration with Hamra Holdings Limited is set to begin its geological and geo-physical mapping for oil and gas exploration, in Karonga District.
Hamra Holdings Limited is an oil exploration company and according to the Company’s consultant, Grain Malunga, the survey starts this month.
The findings, which may lead to offshore oil exploration, are expected to be revealed to the public by December this year"
