Illovo makes K8.1bn profit in six months - The Nation Online: Malawi) plc has reported a jump in profit to K8.1 billion in the six months ended February 28 2019 from K7 billion despite a drop in revenue.

Extracts from unaudited financial statements published yesterday show that revenue for the Malawi Stock Exchange (MSE)-listed sugar manufacturer dropped by K3.8 billion to K62.4 billion from K66.2 billion during the same period last year.

Illovo profit hits K16.4 billion | The Times Group: Illovo Sugar Malawi recorded a K16.4 billion profit in the year-ended August 31 2018, up from K7 billion registered in 2017, the firm said on Thursday. Briefing investors in Chikwawa, the firm said, having produced 230,020 million tonnes of sugar last year, the company’s revenue rose to K141.8 billion from K124, 035 billion in 2017.

Malawi’s sugar exports to United States increase — Ambassador Palmer | Malawi Nyasa Times - Malawi breaking news in Malawi: "“Malawi exported $10.7 million worth of sugar to the United States in 2016, an increase of 25% from 2015.  This quota increase for fiscal year 2017 could mean an additional $4 million worth of Malawian sugar exports to the United States.  The United States remains committed to increasing trade between the United States and Malawi,” said Ambassador Palmer."

Malawian company PRESSCANE Limited has unveiled plans to install a fertiliser manufacturing plant at its ethanol production site in Chikwawa at a cost of US$20 million.

The fertiliser plant is one of the components of a project the company has embarked to increase ethanol production by engaging farmers to grow and sell sugarcane to the ethanol distillery.

Presscane intends to use the ethanol production residues and some molasses for production of fertilisers at the proposed factory.

Presscane operations manager, Bryson Mkomaanthu, said installation works of the plant is planned to start mid next year for completion by end 2017."

Illovo raises dividends at Africa units | Companies | BDlive: "ILLOVO Sugar, Africa’s biggest sugar producer, is paying out increased interim dividends at its Malawi and Zambian units, where the group made 33% and 39% of its operating profit in the 2012 financial year.

The group is focusing on its operations in the rest of Africa to supplement flagging sugar production prospects in South Africa."
