World bank lowers 2020 growth to 4.8% – The Nation Online: The World Bank has projected that Malawi’s economy will grow by 4.8 percent this year, which is 2.2 percentage points lower than Malawi Government’s ambitious projection of seven percent.

The Bretton Woods institution’s projection is premised on weather shocks and political instability folowing the disputed May 21 Tripartite Elections whose presidential race outcome is being contested in court.

Coca-Cola fully acquires Chi Limited - Ventures Africa: The World Bank has earmarked a sum of $95 million to fund the Agricultural Commercialization (AGCOM) Project in Malawi over the next six years. The initiative is aimed at transforming the agriculture sector into a highly productive commercial division.

The overall objective of AGCOM for Malawi is to increase commercialization of agriculture value chain products and is targeted at livestock, aquaculture, and small and medium crop farmers that are in cooperatives to ensure sustained commercialization

Lilongwe — The World Bank says Malawi's economy is recovering with official figures' estimates showing an expected growth of 5.7 percent in agriculture and more than 6 percent growth in manufacturing.

The Bank disclosed this on Tuesday evening when its highly powered delegation of more than 10 officials had audience with President Dr. Joyce Banda at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe to present the Bank's overall assessment of the country's economy over the past 12 months. Leader of the delegation, Kundhavi Kadiresan, who is World Bank Country Director for Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe but based in Zambia, said the Bank had been following closely Malawi Government's efforts towards economic recovery and that it was pleasing to note that there were positive strides."
