The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said it will maintain its focus on seeing the Malawi

government putting a tight lid on its debt dynamics before an agreement on the next Extended

Credit Facility (ECF) programme.

IMF Resident Representative, Jack Reel said this will help to avoid the danger ot debt

snowballing.

IMF mission team in early 2016, to review Malawi’s ECF performance | The Times Group: "An International Monitory Fund’s (IMF) mission team is expected in Malawi within the first quarter of 2016 to review the country’s economic trends and evaluate its performance in line with the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme.

The team will determine Malawi’s fate on whether to resume the US$150 million ECF programme with the fund which was declared off-track in September following the government’s failure to meet agreed targets."

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said its mission that was in Malawi over the past two weeks has reached staff-level understandings with the Malawi government on policies for completing of the first review of its programme with the country.

The new policies include the scope of tightening monetary and fiscal policies to stabilise the exchange rate and contain inflation, IMF Mission Chief for Malawi Tsidi Tsikata told a press briefing in Lilongwe on Thursday"
