Malawi among eight poorest countries in the world | www.malawitoday.com: "New data released by the International Comparison Programme (ICP) which is hosted by the World
Bank has revealed that Malawi is among the top eight poorest countries in the world in terms of GDP per capita.
Per capita GDP is a measure of the total output of a country that takes the GDP and divides it by the number of people in the country.
The ICP 2011 report released on Tuesday ranks Malawi alongside countries such as Mozambique, Central African Republic, Niger, Burundi, DRC, Comoros and Liberia as the eight poorest out of 199 global economies with a GDP per capita of less than $1,000.
Malawi’s GDP per capita was recorded at US$381 in 2013. Economic Planning Minister Ralph Jooma asked for more time to scrutinise the report before commenting"
