There are clear signs that substantial funds have been embezzled from the Malawian Ministry of Finance. The President has asked the World Bank and the UK for assistance in investigating what seems to be a serious case of corruption. The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided on 10 October to freeze all further budget support to Malawi until there is independent confirmation that weaknesses in Malawi’s financial management system have been rectified, stated in a press release from the ministry."
