Japan gives $48m grant for hydropower expansion project in Malawi - Power Technology: "The Government of Japan has given a JPY5.77bn ($48m) grant to Malawi to upgrade the Tedzani electricity hydropower station in the African country.
The expansion project will raise the facilities' power generation capacity by 21.8MW.
Currently, the African country is facing a power crisis, which is affecting the local and the industrial sector.
A statement released by Japanese Embassy in Malawi read: "Currently, Malawi is faced with frequent power outages due to the shortage of power supply and this has negative implications on the lives of ordinary people as well as on industrial activities"
