Kenya Airways has received approval from the Government of Malawi to begin flying into Chileka Airport in Blantyre effective June 3.

In a letter to the airline from Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Government of Malawi, Moffat Chitimbe, Kenya Airways was also given approval to resume 5th freedom traffic rights on the Lilongwe-Lusaka sector.

“I am pleased to convey government approval for your operations into Chileka Airport, Blantyre, and the exercise of 5th Freedom Traffic Rights on the Lilongwe-Lusaka sector as per your filed schedules effective 3rd "

Potential investors have shown interest in the Kanyika Niobium Project (KNP) in Malawi’s northern district of Mzimba as the economic prospects of the mine become clearer, the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX)-listed Globe Metals and Mining, the licensed owner, has said.

In the company’s shareholder newsletter for April 2013, chairperson Shao Yi said they are committed to becoming the major supplier and producer of niobium and tantalum in Southern and Eastern Africa."

Experts on the tobacco industry say the country’s on-going gold leaf  marketing season continues registering success in both pricing and revenue collected despite other challenges facing the industry.

Chief Executive Officer for the Malawi’s tobacco regulatory body, the Tobacco Control Commission (TCC) , Dr Bruce Munthali says in just three weeks after the opening of the season on March 12, the country has realized 12 million dollars compared to 3 million dollars it realized during the same period last in 2012."

The Ethiopian Airlines on Sunday commenced flights to its new routes in two African cities -- Ndola of Zambia, and Blantyre of Malawi.

The launch of the new routes has raised the number of Ethiopian's destinations to 46 on the African continent."
