Malawi’s trade deficit widened further in September 2012 to K34 billion (about $100m) from K26.8 billion (about $78.8m) the previous month, an indication that the country is importing more than it is exporting.
The National Statistical Office (NSO) January statistical bulletin indicates that the trade deficit worsened in the previous 12 months from K20 billion (about $58.8m) in September 2011 to K26.8 billion in August 2012 and widened further to K34 billion in September 2012."
